On Monday night, the Toronto Blue Jays once again found a way to throw away what at one point looked like a victory over the Mets. A complete bullpen meltdown led to the club's seventh loss in their last 10 games, and the Jays are now nine games below .500 on the season. Hey, at least their run differential is no longer the worst in the AL East!

Probable starting pitchers

  • For the second game of this series, the Blue Jays are set to send Chris Bassitt to the mound to make his 29th start of the year. The right-hander hasn't looked like himself this year, as he is 9-13 with a 4.30 ERA and 95 ERA+ in 157 innings of work. He leads the AL in hits allowed (165) and seems to always have runners on base while he's on the mound. In his last start against the Phillies, the 10-year veteran allowed four runs (three earned) on 10 hits while striking out seven batters in 5.1 innings.
  • Opposite Bassitt will be left-hander David Peterson, who the Mets will have take the mound for the 18th time this season. Peterson, 29, seems to have finally broken through at the big league level, as he's been money this year. In 98.1 innings, he's got 9-1 with a 2.75 ERA and 143 ERA+, lowering his H/9 by two full hits from last year and bringing his HR/9 and BB/9 down as well. Peterson has gone six or more innings in six of his last 10 starts.
