The gap between the Toronto Blue Jays and first place in the American League East is up to 14 games entering Tuesday's action. The Jays have clawed their way out of last place in the division and are now one game above the Rays, but it's not exactly time to start counting up the victories yet. Game 2 of this crucial series against the Milwaukee Brewers will feature a top prospect of theirs making his big league debut, and the Jays have had their fair share of issues taking on a pitcher with little to no big league scouting reports (see: Easton McGee in 2023).

Probable starting pitchers

  • Yusei Kikuchi is set to take the mound for the 14th time this season. Kikuchi, 33 in a week, had ran into some troubles in two of his last three starts before a strong six-inning, one-run showing against the Orioles last time out cooled off some of the growing concerns. On the year, he's 3-5 with a 3.48 ERA, 3.06 FIP and 112 ERA+ across 72.1 innings of work.
  • 22-year-old Carlos Rodriguez will take the mound for the Brewers. The right-hander has developed as a high-strikeout hurler for Milwaukee but has taken a bit of a step back as far as stats go this year. In 11 Triple-A starts, he's got a 5.17 ERA with a K/9 under 10 for the first time in his career and BB/9 over 4 for the first time as well. Still, the Brewers have a whopping six starting pitchers on the injured list right now and it's Rodriguez's turn in line.
