Following a disappointing 3-1 loss on Friday night, the Toronto Blue Jays bounced back with a strong collective bullpen effort on Saturday to shut out the Cleveland Guardians 5-0. The Jays (34-36) will look to take the series in the rubber match against the Guardians (44-24) on Father’s Day to end the week on a high note. Shortstop Bo Bichette (day-to-day) remains out of the lineup with right calf soreness.

Probable starting pitchers

  • The Blue Jays will be sending right-handed pitcher José Berríos to the mound. Berríos has been carrying the starting rotation thus far in 2024, posting a solid 5-5 record with a 2.93 ERA and 1.11 WHIP. Despite putting up strong starts in his past six outings, he had only one win to show for it as a result of the lack of run support. Berríos will aim to get back into the win column on Sunday against the Guardians, who will be without their best player in José Ramírez due to paternity leave.
  • The Guardians will counter with 32-year-old veteran pitcher Ben Lively. Lively had been putting together the best season of his career, as he has compiled a stellar 6-2 record with a 2.59 ERA and 1.11 WHIP with 48 strikeouts in 55.2 innings pitched. He is currently on a hot streak, having won each of his last five starts and six of his past seven, as he looks to continue his winning ways to help the Guardians salvage a series win against the Jays this weekend.
