Toronto Blue Jays probable pitchers & starting lineups vs. Cleveland Guardians, June 14
Continuing the trend of facing off against difficult opponents, the Toronto Blue Jays' next roadblock is the first-place Cleveland Guardians, who are one of the best teams in baseball this season. At 43-23, the Guardians have a comfortable five-game lead over the Royals in the AL Central and their +90 run differential is the fifth-highest in the game. A series win would go a long way for the Blue Jays' momentum, as they need all the wins they can muster up against tough teams like the Guardians.
Earlier on Friday, the Blue Jays announced a pair of surprising roster moves that led to the promotion of Addison Barger. Read more about the move(s) here.
Probable starting pitchers
- Fresh off of the first complete game shutout of his big league career, Kevin Gausman is set to take the mound for the Blue Jays for the 14th time this season. Gausman, 33, is 5-4 so far, with a 4.00 ERA, 3.39 FIP and 97 ERA+. He's had some hiccups along the way, but his ERA is gradually coming back down to earth and he's shown some flashes of returning to his ace-like form that we saw so frequently last year.
- 25-year-old Logan Allen is going to take the ball for Cleveland, making his 14th start of the year. The southpaw has ran into a bit of a sophomore slump so far, as he currently boasts an ERA of 5.57 and he leads the major leagues in home runs allowed with 14. His strikeout rate has dipped a bit and his H/9 has also climbed up over 10.0. The Blue Jays are going righty-heavy in their lineup in hopes of raising that ERA even higher.
