Following a miserable series against the Texas Rangers earlier in the week, the Toronto Blue Jays provided a much-needed win against the Boston Red Sox on Friday night with a 3-0 shutout victory. The Jays will look to continue that winning momentum on Saturday as they have pulled to within half a game of the Seattle Mariners for the third and final Wild Card spot in the AL playoff race.

Probable starting pitchers

  • The Jays will send Chris Bassitt to the mound in the second game of the three-game set. Bassitt is coming off a rough start against the Rangers last time out in which he gave up five earned runs on nine hits in just 5.1 innings pitched. He will look to bounce back in today's matchup to help the Jays secure the series victory over the Red Sox.
  • The Red Sox will counter with former team ace Chris Sale. Although Sale now appears to be a shell of his former self, he has always been in tough against the Jays whenever the rivals meet up. He will be looking for his seventh win of the season as the Red Sox hope to play spoiler in the Jays' playoff hopes.
