At long last, we have reached the series finale in this four-game set between the Toronto Blue Jays and the Boston Red Sox. Boston has already secured the series victory but the Jays will look to spoil the team's plans for a clean sweep. In the first two games, a collapse of the Blue Jays' bullpen led to the Sox taking (and holding onto) late game leads, while Wednesday evening's affair was a shellacking by Boston in 8-3 fashion.
Probable starting pitchers
- Kevin Gausman, easily the most reliable arm on this Blue Jays pitching staff, is set to make the seventh start of his 2023 season. So far, things have gone well for him. In 38.2 innings, he has a 2.33 ERA, 2.38 FIP and 154 ERA+, striking out 54 while walking only six. Gausman has performed exceptionally against both righties (.237 average, .600 OPS) and lefties (.204, .605) and is coming off of one of the best starts of his 11-year career after he went seven shutout innings against the Mariners with 13 strikeouts.
- The Red Sox will turn to 23-year-old Brayan Bello, who will be making his fourth start. After a strong 13-game showing last season, the current one has not gotten off to a great start for him. In the first three outings and 12.1 innings for Bello, he has a 6.57 ERA, 5.71 FIP and 72 ERA+. He has surrendered nine earned runs on 18 hits, including three home runs, so far.
