Toronto Blue Jays probable pitchers & starting lineups vs. Baltimore Orioles, June 6
After Wednesday night's epic walkoff victory, the Blue Jays miraculously have the chance to split a four-game series with the dangerous Orioles. The Jays are at a point where every single win is of the utmost importance as they look to avoid falling too far out of contention. With 14 games separating them and the first-place Yankees in the AL East, it seems that a Wild Card spot may be what Toronto settles for. Entering the day, they are four games out of that race.
Probable starting pitchers
- Next up for the Blue Jays is Yusei Kikuchi, who has seen his numbers dip over his past three starts. The left-hander has a 3.66 ERA and 106 ERA+ on the year but is sporting an ERA over 7.00 in his last three turns on the mound. However, Kikuchi went 4.1 innings of one-run, nine-strikeout ball against these very same Orioles back on May 15, so let's aim for another one of those performances this afternoon.
- Opposite Kikuchi will be yet another premier Orioles prospect making his MLB debut. This time around, left-hander Cade Povich, MLB Pipeline's No. 9 Orioles prospect, will be the one in the spotlight. Povich, 24, dazzled in 11 Triple-A outings pre-promotion, posting a 3.18 ERA with nearly 12 strikeouts per nine innings and just 21 walks in 56.2 innings of work. He's always been a high-strikeout hurler who doesn't allow many hits, so the Blue Jays will have to hope for some debut nerves in this contest.
