Toronto Blue Jays probable pitchers & starting lineups vs. Baltimore Orioles, June 4
After last night's defeat at the hands of the Baltimore Orioles, the Toronto Blue Jays now sit at 28-31, 13 games back in the AL East. Things are looking more and more bleak by the day as the trade deadline inches closer. While the Blue Jays' -36 run differential isn't even the lowest one in the division, there's still so much work to be done if the club can hold onto any hope of contention as the days roll on.
Probable starting pitchers
- The Blue Jays are set to send Trevor Richards to the mound as tonight's "starter". Richards, 31, will likely function in an opener role with the recently activated Bowden Francis serving as the follower/innings eater. Richards has 25 appearances under his belt this year with a 3.18 ERA and 123 ERA+. His strikeout numbers are down compared to last year but he remains one of the more solid relievers this Blue Jays squad has. In his last time out, he went 3.1 shutout innings in relief of the injured Alek Manoah. Getting three or four innings out of him this time around would be considered a massive win for all involved.
- The Richards and Francis duo will take on Corbin Burnes, one of the top pitchers in baseball. Burnes, 29, is in his first season as a member of the Orioles and has continued to dominate the opposition. In 12 starts and 72.2 innings, the right-hander has a 2.35 ERA and 156 ERA+, striking out 71 batters and walking 20.
