Toronto Blue Jays probable pitchers & starting lineups vs. Baltimore Orioles, August 8
At 52-62, the 2024 Toronto Blue Jays are not a club destined for the postseason. Their run differential (-89) is the third-worst in the American League and their current opponent, the Baltimore Orioles, always gives them fits. However, the Blue Jays represent something of a playoff spoiler for other clubs, like the Orioles. Victories now don't mean much, but chipping away at momentum division rivals have heading to the postseason is about as much as a team like the current Blue Jays can ask for.
Probable starting pitchers
- Kevin Gausman is set to take the mound for the 23rd time this season for the Blue Jays. The right-hander has at times shown his ace-like stuff, but the year as a whole has been underwhelming for him. Across 124.1 innings of work, he's sporting a 4.56 ERA and 89 ERA+ (11 percent below league-average). Gausman no longer looks like the top-shelf starter he was last season, but the Blue Jays could use another complete game with eight strikeouts like he had two starts ago against the Rangers.
- Opposite Gausman will be fellow right-hander Dean Kremer. The 28-year-old has also struggled this year to the tune of a 4.39 ERA and 87 ERA+ across 15 starts and 80 innings. Kremer has never been much of a strikeout threat, but he's quietly turned himself into a reliable mid-rotation starter for these Orioles in the past few years.
