The 51-41 Toronto Blue Jays aim to make it two in a row against the second place Arizona Diamondbacks. In last night's contest, old friend Gabriel Moreno took Trevor Richards deep in the seventh inning, but the Jays held on in 7-2 fashion thanks to an offensive explosion in the bottom of the seven.

Probable starting pitchers

  • For the Blue Jays, staff ace Kevin Gausman was supposed to start today's contest, but he is experiencing discomfort in his left side and has been scratched. Fortunately, he is considered day-to-day and will likely not need a trip to the injured list. In his place, Chris Bassitt will make his 20th start of the season. So far, the right-hander has either been really solid or tough to watch with very few starts in the middle. In just under 110 innings this year, the 34-year-old is 8-5 with a 4.19 ERA, 4.81 FIP and 100 ERA+.
  • Opposite Bassitt is going to be Arizona ace Zac Gallen, who is firmly in the running for an NL Cy Young Award this season. In 19 starts, the right-hander is 11-3 with a 3.04 ERA, 2.76 ERA and 140 ERA+. He started the All-Star Game for the National League and currently leads the league in wins, FIP and WHIP.
