Toronto Blue Jays probable pitchers & starting lineups vs. Arizona Diamondbacks, July 13
Blue Jays, please no more tough losses like the one on Friday night
On Friday night, the Toronto Blue Jays blew a hard-fought game by surrendering three runs in the final two innings in a 5-4 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. At 43-51, the Blue Jays sit nine games out of a playoff spot with another couple of games to go before the All-Star break. They will look to even up the series on Saturday when they take on the Diamondbacks in the second game of their three-game weekend set.
Probable pitchers
- José Berríos will toe the rubber for the Blue Jays, making his 20th start of the season. Berríos had been one of the few bright spots on a struggling Jays team this year. He has compiled an 8-6 record with a 3.76 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, along with just 29 walks and 87 strikeouts in 115 innings pitched. Having won three of his past five outings, he will aim to continue that success against a Diamondbacks team in which he has held to just one run in two career starts.
- The Diamondbacks will counter with rookie right-handed pitcher Yilber Díaz. Ranked 16th among Arizona’s top prospects according to MLB Pipeline, Díaz had a strong MLB debut against the Atlanta Braves on July 8. He managed to hold the Braves’ prolific offense to just one run on four hits while striking out five in six innings of work. Díaz will be looking for his first career win when he takes on the Blue Jays on Saturday night.
