The Toronto Blue Jays (73-82) wrap up their road schedule on Sunday as they close out their series with the Tampa Bay Rays (77-78) at Tropicana Field. With a 4-8 record against their AL East foe, the Blue Jays haven't given themselves much chance to catch the Rays in the division standings after dropping the first two games this weekend. They're now 4.0 games behind Tampa and trail the Red Sox by 3.5 heading into action today.

Just days after Vladimir Guerrero Jr. became the first Blue Jay to have three 30+ home run seasons before turning 26, he provided another highlight in Saturday's 3-2 loss. Guerrero set a new single-season career-high in hits with his 189th knock of the year in his third-inning at-bat. He then tacked on a couple more for a 3-for-5 day, bringing his season total to 191. With seven games left, there's a real chance that the Blue Jays superstar will cap his magnificent offensive campaign with 200 hits.

Probable starting pitchers

  • Ryan Burr will take the ball as the “opener" for the Blue Jays today. In 30 games this season, the right-hander has posted a 3.72 ERA and 1.17 WHIP while logging 40 strikeouts in 29 innings. Burr has previously made two opening appearances, holding opponents off the board while allowing two hits, one walk with five strikeouts in three innings. Left-hander Ryan Yarbrough, a former member of the Rays, is expected to be the long reliever that comes in after Burr’s day is done.
  • Right-hander Shane Baz will counter for the Rays, making his 12th start of the season after finally getting healthy. The 25-year-old is 3-3 with a 3.21 and 1.11 WHIP but a surprisingly low 7.49 K/9. Last time out, he held the Red Sox to two runs on just two hits while striking out six and walking one over seven innings.
