Coming off of one of the most disappointing losses in recent memory, the Toronto Blue Jays are set to take on the Miami Marlins for the first of a three-game series in Miami. The Marlins are 41-31 and currently sit in second-place in the NL East, 5.0 GB of the red-hot Atlanta Braves. After losing two out of three to the Rangers, the Blue Jays are 39-34, 11.0 GB of the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East.
Probable starting pitchers
- For the Blue Jays, right-hander José Berríos is set to make his 15th start of the year. So far in 2023, the 29-year-old has been money for the Jays and looks more like his old self than he did all of last year. Berríos is 7-4 with a 3.28 ERA, 3.76 FIP and 124 ERA+ and is fresh off of an outing against the Orioles in which he went 7.2 scoreless innings with five strikeouts.
- The Marlins are sending 26-year-old Bryan Hoeing to the mound for his third start of the year. He has primarily been used as a multi-inning reliever and may not go more than two innings in tonight's contest. In 16 appearances, Hoeing has a 3.12 ERA with 22 strikeouts and 10 walks across 26 innings of work this year.
