With the Toronto Blue Jays current record of 28-30, which has them sitting in last place in the American League East, Ross Atkins put any trade rumours involving Vladimir Guerrero Jr. or Bo Bichette to bed earlier today during an interview with MLB Network Radio.

"It's not something we've spent any time on ... It just doesn't make sense for us."

It was just a couple weeks ago that an unnamed American League executive told MLB.com's Mark Feinsand that the Blue Jays wouldn't be "opposed" to moving their star first basemen or shortstop.

"I don’t think they’re opposed to it. They’ve talked to teams about it. The asks were ridiculous, but I think they’re going to try to retool a lot, and using those guys to get pieces may be the way to do it."

Prior to the season, the idea of a potential move involving either of BIchette or Guerrero was almost inconceivable, but with the teams slow start to the season, it's understandable why rumours have begun to surface.

Bichette has started slow this season, currently holding a slash line of .236/.284/.343, but he has started to heat up as of late, hitting .269 with ten RBI and two home runs over his last 15 games. Guerrero, on the other hand, has been much better this season, hitting .291 with an OBP of .388, although he does only have five homeruns.

Guerrero was baseball's No. 1 prospect when he was called up in 2019 and had sky high expectations. After a second place finish in AL MVP voting in 2021, his numbers have gone up and down, with some fans questioning whether he's still a franchise cornerstone type of player. Guerrero has, however, previously expressed his desire to remain a Blue Jay for the entirety of his career.

Both Guerrero and Bichette are set to hit the open market after next season.
