New prospect the Blue Jays landed in IKF trade is off to a red-hot start
Charles McAdoo is off to the best possible start in his new organization.
At this year's trade deadline, the Toronto Blue Jays were one of the most active teams in the league. Armed with a multitude of assets on expiring contracts, as soon as they began their freefall in the standings, it was clear that there were going to be quite a few moving parts come July 30.
The Blue Jays did not disappoint, as they moved every single rental and a pair of players with additional control beyond the current season. One of those was Isiah Kiner-Falefa, who quickly became a fan favorite thanks to his hustle and jack-of-all-trades type of skillset he brought to the field ever day.
IKF was traded to the Pirates in what felt like a minor move at the time. He was on the injured list and it just didn't feel like a trade that moved the needle much for the Jays. However, the prospect that came over from Pittsburgh has been tearing it up in Double-A New Hampshire, which could make this trade a win by the Blue Jays in short order.
Charles McAdoo has been on fire since joining the Blue Jays organization
In exchange for IKF, the Blue Jays acquired third base prospect Charles McAdoo, who was initially selected in the 13th round of the 2023 Draft by the Pirates. He had made it up to No. 29 on Baseball America's updated prospect rankings before the trade, but his prospect status was nowhere near as shiny as some of his teammates in the Pirates organization.
Once he joined the Blue Jays, McAdoo wasted no time producing for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. He's made just 15 appearances since the deadline, but he's already got six extra-base hits (three doubles, three home runs) with nine runs driven in and nine runs scored. He's also walked nine times while walking just 14 times.
On the season, McAdoo boasts a .308/.394/.533 line with a .927 OPS in a total of 102 games split between the Blue Jays and Pirates systems. He's been especially hot as of late and is up to No. 8 in MLB Pipeline's new Blue Jays prospect rankings.
The 22-year-old infielder has wasted absolutely no time turning up the heat on offense since coming over to Toronto. A promotion to Triple-A is possible, maybe even likely, before the year ends and we could conceivably see him in The Show as soon as next year if he keeps this up.
