Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette has been at the center of attention over the past month with regards to his trade status. Is he going to stay, or is he good as gone? When he suffered his third calf strain injury of the season this past Friday, many believed that it would ultimately end any possible hopes of a move prior to the trade deadline.

But that didn’t stop what the future may still hold for the 26-year-old superstar. MLB insider Bob Nightengale dropped a huge bombshell on Blue Jays’ fans everywhere when he revealed that Bichette had informed his friends that he would “welcome a trade”. We sure don’t know what friends he may have been referring to, but whoever they were, they have managed to get the word out to the media what Bichette is feeling about the developing situation.

Nevertheless, this notion goes hand-in-hand with an earlier interview by Sportsnet’s Hazel Mae back in the end of June when Bichette indicated that he wouldn’t be surprised at all if he were to be moved by the Jays by the trade deadline. In other words, it doesn’t look like Bichette is preparing to be in the long term plans of the Blue Jays if these indicators were giving subtle hints of the situation that has been materializing.

If that is indeed the case, then there’s no doubt that it would spark potentially more Bichette trade rumors in the coming days. That even in despite his current injury status. For Bichette, he had been amidst his worst ever MLB season to date, hitting a paltry .223 with a .597 OPS, along with just 4 home runs and 30 RBI in 79 games played.

As much as it hurts to say it, the situation is beginning to resemble more of that of former superstar Josh Donaldson’s final season with the Jays. At the time, Donaldson was running into frustrating injury woes, along with highly underperforming compared to his usual standards. When it became apparent his days with the club were numbered, the Jays just focussed on recouping any assets they possibly could when they eventually dealt away the former AL MVP. The result…Julian Merryweather, that was it.
