Major League Baseball is not the only league of professional baseball getting going around the world. In Japan and Korea, two of the top non-MLB leagues are firing up as well; Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) and the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO).

Each league has rules in place against how many "foreign" players can be rostered at one time. In the NPB, there's no real limit to how many foreign players can be in the organization, but only four are allowed at once. At no time can there be four position players or four pitchers, there can only be a maximum of three of each.

In the KBO, the rules are largely the same. The foreign limit in Korea is set at three, with no more than two of them being pitchers. Up until 2014, there was a limit of only two foreign players allowed at any given time.

In the past, current players like Jay Jackson and Casey Lawrence have found great successes overseas in non-MLB leagues.

As the rosters are being set around the world's top baseball leagues, there are a surprisingly large amount of former Toronto Blue Jays players that are aiming to revive their professional careers overseas.

Let's check out which former Blue Jays players are playing overseas to start 2023.

Former Blue Jays players in Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB)

Jacob Waguespack - Orix Buffaloes

Waguespack, 29, spent parts of two seasons on the Blue Jays' big league roster back in 2019 and 2020. He functioned as both a starter and reliever and made a total of 27 appearances, posting a 5.08 ERA and 89 ERA+ across 95.2 innings of work. 2023 will be the second season for him in Japan as he looks to follow up a successful 2022 performance. In 35 appearances last year, he had a 2.66 ERA in 82.2 innings, allowing only four home runs along the way.

Jeremy Beasley - Hanshin Tigers

Beasley, 27, made a total of 17 appearances for the Blue Jays split betwene 2021 and 2022. In 24.1 innings of work, he struggled to a 5.92 ERA, 6.46 FIP and an ERA+ of 71. He has always been a consistent strikeout pitcher, but has had troubles walking too many batters and allowing a ton of baserunners to reach. He has two scoreless outings under his belt to begin the season for the Tigers, strikiung out three batters and walking one.

Former Blue Jays players in the Korean Baseball Organization (KBO)

Anthony Alford - KT Wiz

A longtime speedster for the Blue Jays, Alford, 28, is currently in his second season with the Wiz. After struggling to find consistent success in the major leagues, Alford joined the Wiz last year and promptly hit 14 home runs with 50 RBI and a .286 average in 80 games.

Sócrates Brito - Kia Tigers

Brito, 30, spent just 17 games in a Blue Jays uniform back in 2019, going three-for-39 (.077 average) and posting one of the worst slash lines you can find in the game today. He spent 2021 in the Yankees system but has been on the Tigers since the beginning of last season. In 127 games last year, he hit 17 home runs with 77 RBI and a .311 average.

Shaun Anderson - Kia Tigers

Joining Brito on the Tigers this year is 28-year-old righty Shaun Anderson, who made just one relief appearance for the Blue Jays last year. He's functioned as both a starter and reliever over his 10-year professional career and is returning to the rotation for the Tigers for the first time since 2019. He has made two starts so far this year, striking out five and walking two in 14 innings with an ERA of 3.21.
