While Chris Bassitt is still one of the newer members of the Toronto Blue Jays, he has already proven to be a winner both on and off the field. On the field, he has made a league-leading 20 starts and is 9-5 with a 4.12 ERA and 101 ERA+. He has been a steady presence in the middle of the Jays' rotation and has provided exactly what the club needed from him: reliable innings.

Off the field, Bassitt's latest contribution comes in the form of an announcement from him and his wife Jessica.

Chris took to Twitter to announce the "Bassitts Pitch In" program that directly supports the Jays Care Foundation. Him and his family will donate $10,000 US Dollars after each game the Blue Jays win that he started in. So far this year, the Bassitt has family has already donated $120,000.

Per Jays Care's website, all of the contributions raised under Bassitts Pitch In will directly go towards the Jays Care RBI Summer Edition. This event provides free afternoon baseball programs to the Toronto School District's half day summer school classes. Many children may not have the opportunity to safely participate in other learning programs, so this one aims to target an audience that otherwise would not be exposed to such activities.

The RBI Summer Edition runs from July to the middle of August and is estimated to reach around 2,000 students ranging from grades one to eight. They will be a part of baseball training, various team-building exercises and arts and crafts-based activities. Additionally, around 300 staff members will be on-hand to lead the programs.

The Bassitts had the following to say about these contributions in a press release:

"When we joined the Blue Jays, our family immediately felt embraced by the local community and fans across the country. We are building our family in Toronto and believe strongly in giving back to the community that supports us on and off the field. Sports have an incredibly positive impact on children’s emotional and physical well-being, and we are excited to partner with Jays Care on all the amazing work they do with kids and sports."
