Blue Jays vs. Athletics prediction and odds for Tuesday, Sept. 5 (Jays win again)

The Toronto Blue Jays need another win on Tuesday against Oakland.

The Toronto Blue Jays are just half a game out of the final wild card spot in the American League after beating the Oakland Athletics in Game 1 of their series.

The Jays gained a game on the Texas Rangers – who lost to the Houston Astros – in the AL wild card race.

That makes Tuesday’s game a big one for the Jays, as they need to handle business against one of the worst teams in baseball. Chris Bassitt gets the ball for the Jays against Oakland lefty Ken Waldichuk

Blue Jays vs. Athletics prediction and pick

Bassitt has a 3.43 ERA since the start of July (11 starts), leading the Jays to a 7-4 record in those games.

Toronto is so close to a playoff spot, and this game should mean a ton for the team considering Houston and Texas (the two teams ahead of them) play tonight.

I think Bassitt has the advantage here over Waldichuk, who has worked out of the bullpen and in the rotation this season – leading to him having a lot of short starts.

That’s a major issue since Oakland has the worst bullpen ERA in Major League Baseball this season at 5.30.

The Jays are also sixth in the league in OPS against left-handed pitching, so I think they’ll be able to jump on the young Oakland starter.
