Bo Bichette has had a wavering season up to this point. Going from a consensus top 10 shortstop in the league entering the year, all the way to being at the forefront of trade rumours just mere weeks before the trade deadline. There'd already been confirmation from Bichette himself that he would "not be surprised at all" if he were traded at the deadline. Despite the uncertainty, we have our answer: Bo Bichette will not be traded. That goes the same for Vladimir Guerrero Jr., Kevin Gausman, and Chris Bassitt. However, the Blue Jays were still considering a Bo Bichette trade to the very end.

ESPN's Jeff Passan was recently on the Blair and Barker show, where he revealed some interesting details about the Jays recent plans involving Bo Bichette, and his future status with the team. "I did hear earlier this week Bo Bichette's name." Passan said. "Saying they haven't completely closed the door on that, but then he got hurt, so the door itself closed."

It could have been seen as very realistic for the Blue Jays to trade Bichette, after the season went in such an awry direction. Although, with Bichette's major underperformance this year, and eventual right calf injury, offloading him at such a low value does not seem to be worth it for the Jays. The Blue Jays are expected to only really trade their rental players at the trade deadline, leaving themself in a position to stay competitive for 2025. With Bichette's name apparently floating around in trade talks before being injured, would that have changed the outlook of the Jays' trade deadline? Perhaps they were more willing to a full set rebuild before Bichette's injury promptly taking him out of trade talks.

With the rentals being the Blue Jays' primary focus at the trade deadline, it is paramount that the Jays get the most out of all their all their transactions this season. Whether it's a complete tear down of the entire core, or just moving expiring contracts, the Blue Jays cannot afford to endure another season of underperformance in 2025.
