It's typically hot in August, but Jace Bohrofen has been even hotter at the plate.

The Jays Journal No. 14 ranked prospect and Vancouver Canadians outfielder is hitting .365/.434/.595 in 18 games with a 1.029 OPS in 83 plate appearances during the month of August. Bohrofen has hit five home runs and two doubles this month, while driving in 21 runs. He has also picked up a hit in 16 of those 18 August games, a run which included a 13-game hitting streak that came to an end Friday.

To add to his stellar month, Bohrofen just finished a monster week that helps his team as it fights for a playoff spot. He went 9-for-22 (.429) with a double, three home runs, 19 total bases, five runs scored, eight RBI and a walk in five games. The performance not only helped first-place Vancouver take four of six from the Everett AquaSox, but it also netted him Northwest League Player of the Week honors for Aug. 19 through 25.

The hot streak comes after Bohrofen's struggles in July. For the month, Bohrofen hit just .197 in 91 plate appearances with an on-base percentage of .319. His .621 OPS was the lowest Bohrofen has posted for any month this season. The outfielder also struck out 22 times, and drew just 11 walks while hitting three doubles, a triple and a home run.

Power was a reason the Jays drafted Bohrofen, according to MLB.com. There is a lot of swing-and-miss in Bohrofen's game, which means he needs to mash to move up in professional baseball. He has a lot of upper body strength and makes good contact, and like MLB.com says, Bohrofen will go as far as his bat will take him.

Bohrofen was a highly ranked prospect out of high school in 2020, but he chose to attend Oklahoma instead. He transferred to Arkansas for the 2022 college season and spent some time in the Cape Cod League. Bohrofen slashed .280/.376/.516 in 49 games over two Cape Cod seasons, smashing 13 doubles, five triples, seven home runs and posting an .892 OPS.

Taken in the sixth round of the 2023 MLB Draft, Bohrofen played his sophomore and junior seasons with the University of Arkansas Razorbacks. Named one of three team captains during his junior year in 2023, Bohrofen homered in four consecutive games twice and earned national player of the week honors.

After being drafted, Bohrofen played 24 games between the Blue Jays' Rookie-level team and low Single-A Dunedin. The power was on display at both levels, with Bohrofen hitting seven home runs and five doubles in 97 plate appearances. He hit .299 with a .443 on-base percentage with a 1.080 OPS.

For the 2024 season, Bohrofen, 22, has hit .247/.359/.775 in 102 games and 438 plate appearances with Vancouver, Toronto's Single-A affiliate. Bohrofen is 91 for 368 at the plate, with 22 doubles, two triples, 12 home runs, 52 runs and 51 RBI. He's played all three outfield spots, spending most of the time — 69 games — in right field. And while errors aren't always the best measure of defensive ability, it is worth noting that Bohrofen hasn't made one in his minor league career.

For an organization that has struggled to produce major-league ready homegrown talent, having a power bat like Bohrofen's is exciting for the Blue Jays. He may be a few seasons away from the majors, but watching Bohrofen rise through the system could be fun.
