At 46-56, the Toronto Blue Jays' season is basically already over. The club is set to take on the Texas Rangers for a three-game weekend series as the trade deadline inches closer and closer. The Rangers are 51-52 and are planning on buying at the deadline, while the Jays are gearing up for a soft sell-off.

Prior to Friday evening's Apple TV+ exclusive, the Blue Jays took to social media (X link) to announce a pair of roster moves. Once again, the bullpen is going to have a new face join the fold while the game of musical chairs continues.

Right-hander Yerry Rodriguez, recently acquired in a minor trade with these very same Rangers, has been recalled from Triple-A. Fellow right-hander Ryan Burr has been optioned down to re-join the Buffalo Bisons.

Rodriguez, 26, has 26 big league appearances under his belt, all with the Rangers, dating back to 2022. He's got a 7.11 ERA and 5.59 FIP thanks to 25 earned runs on 37 hits in just 31.2 innings of work.

The hurler made five relief appearances for the Bisons post-trade and has a 1.80 ERA in five innings. Unfortunately, his ERA isn't telling the full story, as he walked more batters (nine) than he struck out (eight) in those outings. He is usually a walk-heavy pitcher, but this is a walk rate that's new even for him.

It's unclear if Rodriguez is going to bring anything more than a new face to a Blue Jays' bullpen that desperately needs to show some signs of life.

Burr, 30, has made 10 appearances for the Blue Jays since he joined the organization via minor trade with the Phillies. The Gate 14 legend has largely looked strong in his big league showings this year, but he surrendered four runs and walked two batters in just a single inning of work in Thursday's embarrassing loss against the Rays.
