The 2023 MLB Draft is finally upon us, here is a live tracker on who the Toronto Blue Jays select.
One of the most exciting times of the year is upon us, the MLB Draft. The 2023 installment will begin on Sunday, July 9th and will run through Tuesday, July 11th.
Sunday's action featured Round 1 (including one prospect promotion compensation pick), Competitive Balance Round A (10 picks), Round 2 and Competitive Balance Round B (six picks) and three second-round compensation picks.
After selecting left-hander Brandon Barriera with their first choice last season, the Toronto Blue Jays took infielder Arjun Nimmala with their first-round pick in 2023. Nimmala, 17, is a high schooler with a ton of room for improvement, but his bat is considered to be the real deal and his defense is smooth as butter as well. Recent scouting grades put him at a 50 (out of 80) for his hit tool, run tool and fielding tool with a 55 for power and arm.
The Blue Jays will not receive a second-round pick after signing right-handed pitcher Chris Bassitt to a free agent contract this past offseason. They join the Angels, Cardinals, Cubs, Rangers, Yankees, Padres and Phillies as clubs without a second-round selection.
