The start of the MLB season is ripe for prognostication. There's perhaps no sport better suited for predictions than baseball due to a 162-game season full of hot streaks, swoons and everything in between.
One of the most popular prognostication to make is which team wins a divison, pennant or World Series. While it's always nice to correctly pick who wins MVP or Cy Young, there's a different type of validation that comes with correctly picking a team to reach a milestone consdering all the change that can occur with a team over a season.
As such, you don't see many experts put their neck on the line and pick the Blue Jays to win the American League East — or even the American League as a whole.
But this year, one MLB expert decided to put their admiration for the Blue Jays out there with their pick to win the American League.
New York MLB insider predicts Blue Jays win American League pennant
In a new article for the New York Post, members of the paper's sports staff put together their predictions for the 2025 MLB season, where they picked division, pennant and World Series winners.
And, as a part of that, Mike Puma picked the Blue Jays to win the American League East AND the American League pennant, where they'd go on to lose to the Dodgers in the World Series.
Puma's predication stands out across the backdrop of the rest of the predications, as the other six members of the panel (Jon Heyman, Greg Joyce, Dan Martin, Mark W. Sanchez, Joel Sherman and Mike Vaccaro) all picked the Blue Jays to come in either fourth of fifth in the American League East.
Puma picking the Dodgers to win it all shouldn't be a surprise, as he was one of four panalists who picked the Dodgers to win it all. All but one of the panlists picked the Dodgers to make the World Series.
The Rangers were the popular pick in the American League, as the only three experts who didn't pick the Dodgers to win it all picked the Rangers to win it all.
But, according to Puma, this year will be the Blue Jays' season. They'll have their work cut out for them in a loaded division that features plenty of marquee hitters and shutdown arms, but, at least according to Mike Puma, they have a shot at finishing the year at the top .
We'll have to wait and see if the team can prove him right.
