New hypothetical trade has Blue Jays sending Bo Bichette to NL contender

Could Bichette's future be in the National League?

From the time that the Toronto Blue Jays drafted Bo Bichette in the 2016 MLB Draft, he was looked at as a player who would be a part of the Blue Jays' next core.

And Bichette's answered the call since being called up to MLB in 2019, as he a two-time All-Star who's also led the American League in hits twice. But those accomplishments haven't resulted in a postseason win for the Blue Jays, as the team's gone winless in all three postseason appearances they've made in the Bichette-Vladimir Guerrero Jr. era.

And while Guerrero is set to be a Blue Jay for the rest of his career, Bichette's staring down the barrel of free agency.

The Blue Jays enter play on Tuesday two games below .500, and, if those struggles continue, there will likely be plenty of teams that will be calling the Blue Jays to inquire about Bichette's services.

Bichette already been linked to Milwaukee Brewers in mid-May

It's not hard to imagine how Bichette can help a contender. He's hitting .292 in 46 games this season and has been a sparkplug at the top of the order for the Blue Jays.

And, according to Athlon Sports' Dave Gasper, one team that could benefit from Bichette's presence in its lineup is the Milwaukee Brewers. Gasper called Bichette a "dream target" for the Brewers in his new piece highlighting four trade targets for Milwaukee.

The Brewers have been stuck in the same postseason purgatory that the Blue Jays have found themselves in. They've won the National League Central in each of the past two seasons, but lost in the Wild Card Series both seasons.

The Brewers haven't made it to the National League Championship Series since 2018, so they'll likely want to make a move that can help them break that cold streak.

They're a small market team that consistently makes winnings moves on the margins, and trading for a rental bat like Bichette would be the kind of shrewd move they're known for.

He'd join a lineup that already has Rhys Hoskins, Brice Turang, Christian Yelich, Jackson Chourio and William Contreras. Bichette's presence in the lineup would give the Brewers a huge advantage in a very winnable National League Central.

As mentioned above, Bichette would likely be a pure rental for the Brewers since they've only doled out one $200+ million in franchise history (Christian Yelich), but the Blue Jays would likely still be able to get a decent return.

The Blue Jays would also have some extra motivation to deal Bichette to the Brewers since it would keep him out of the American League. While they can't decide where he'll end up in free agency, they could at least make sure that he doesn't catch fire in the postseason for another American League contender.

Bichette's name will continue to be thrown around this summer as a potential trade target so long as the Blue Jays continue to dance around. 500.

The Blue Jays' front office will have a lot to figure out when it comes to Bichette's future (or lack thereof) with the franchise, and it seems like the Brewers will be waiting in the wings while the front office figures out what to do.
