Blue Jays fans woke up Thursday morning (Feb. 26) to the news of future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer re-signing with Toronto and getting one more go with Canada’s team.
It seemed fitting that the Blue Jays would want to bring back the player who would run through a brick wall for his team. For weeks, it seemed the interest was there for both parties, and they wanted to find a way to reunite, which clearly was fulfilled. As excitement filled the fanbase upon hearing the news, nobody wanted it more than a little girl who wrote to the Blue Jays, hoping for the reunion to become reality.
The letter that may have sealed the deal
On Instagram, Max Scherzer’s wife, Erica, revealed that their eight-year-old daughter, Brooke, wrote a letter to the Blue Jays back in December. It was a letter that asked if her dad could reunite with the Blue Jays, and it may be the sweetest thing you’ll read today.

“Dear Blue Jays, I am so sorry that you didn’t win the World Series. I hope that you win next time. I hope my dad is back on the team. My whole family loves spending time in Toronto with our dad. We loved the aquarium, CN Tower, and of course, the stadium. I am looking forward to coming back next season. Love, Max Scherzer’s daughter.” (via emaysway on Instagram)
Surprisingly, this isn’t the first time that a player’s daughter asked to go to Toronto. When Kazuma Okamoto officially became a Blue Jay, he revealed that when he laid out the caps of all 32 teams in front of his daughter, she picked Toronto.
What’s not new is that players past and present continue to rave about how the Blue Jays treat their families throughout the season. To start, back in 2024, Justin Turner spoke about how Toronto made a big effort to ensure his and everyone else’s families were comfortable. When Kevin Kiermaier returned at the start of the 2025 campaign as a special assistant in the Blue Jays’ front office, he stated, “The way this organization treated me and my family was incredible. I’m pumped to be back.”
It’s been a common theme when it comes to the Toronto Blue Jays, and the MLB clearly is taking notice as Toronto becomes a more attractive destination for players. Erica Scherzer said in her Instagram post that 2025 “had an amazing impact on our entire family, and we couldn’t be more excited to go back to Toronto.”
Scherzer's signing comes with Spring Training already underway, including the team having already played some games of Grapefruit League action. It's also unknown just exactly how Scherzer will be used by the Blue Jays who already have a decent amount of depth in the rotation. However, they decide to utilize the 41-year-old future Hall of Famer, there is no doubt that Scherzer's family will be enjoying games at Rogers Centre once again this summer.
