Start spreading the news, postseason baseball will continue in Canada.
The Toronto Blue Jays defeated the New York Yankees 5-2 in Game 4 of the American League Division Series to punch their ticket to their first Championship Series since 2016. After a challenging Game 3 that saw the Yankees avoid the sweep, it was Jeff Hoffman who shut the door in the bottom of the ninth, striking out Cody Bellinger, to silence the Bronx.
“I could tell from Day 1 in Spring Training that we had a really good group and a group that had a lot of pieces. It was just a matter of putting pieces in the right positions”

As the party was underway at Yankee Stadium, back home in Toronto, Scotiabank Arena was also rocking for the season opener of the Toronto Maple Leafs. As it turns out, the fans in attendance were celebrating for more than just the Leafs' (weirdly enough) 5-2 victory over the Montreal Canadiens.
Maple Leafs fans come together for an improptu celebration
If you're a Toronto sports fan, you'll know the only time to catch the Blue Jays and Maple Leafs play on the same night will be if one franchise is starting its season, and the other is in a playoff push. The last few years have seen the Blue Jays begin their season with the Maple Leafs contending for a Stanley Cup.
However, very rarely (maybe since 2016) will you see the Maple Leafs get their season underway with the Blue Jays pushing for a World Series. The last few Postseason appearances haven't been too kind to the Blue Jays, as they've been early exits between 2020 and 2023. The year 2025 was a different tale, and it so happened that Game 4 coincided with the Maple Leafs' first game of the new season.
Throughout the night, the in-arena production team would pull up the Blue Jays' broadcast, especially during intermissions. Fans would also belt out "Let's go, Blue Jays" chants in the middle of the game.

Once the Leafs secured their opening night win against their longtime rival, they put the Blue Jays game back on and allowed fans to stay in the arena to catch the final few innings. As the Blue Jays sealed their ALDS win, fans inside Scotiabank Arena popped off, along with the Leafs' famous goal horn to start the party.

In his postgame media scrum, Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly (who helped his team get the win with a goal and an assist) spoke about the times when he heard the infamous "Let's go, Blue Jays" chant at the start of his career during the team's struggles.

All in all, it was a successful night for Toronto sports fans seeing the Blue Jays and the Maple Leafs win. As mentioned above, also very eerie to have them both win by a score of 5-2. Will the Maple Leafs use the Blue Jays' ALDS win as motivation for their own championship dreams? Who knows?
For now, the buds on the ice have their season going, and the Blue Jays await the winner of the crucial Game 5 between the Detroit Tigers and Seattle Mariners before Game 1 of the ALCS on Sunday.
