John Schneider sounds like a manager running out of answers for Blue Jays

There is no sugarcoating it: the 2026 season has been incredibly frustrating for the Toronto Blue Jays. At the time of this writing, the Blue Jays are at the bottom of the American League East standings with a 46-54 record. They have also been continuing to struggle as of late, losing five out of their last six games.

The Blue Jays getting cold is undoubtedly happening at a bad time, too. Their playoff odds are not looking great right now, as they are five games behind the Boston Red Sox for the final wild card spot in the American League. The Seattle Mariners, Baltimore Orioles, Minnesota Twins, and Houston Astros are also teams on the wrong side of the playoff line who are ahead of Toronto.

With all of this, there is no question that the Blue Jays need to turn things around immediately if they hope to get into the playoffs this year. Blue Jays manager John Schneider made that abundantly clear while recently speaking to reporters, including The Athletic's Mitch Bannon.

"We got to start winning," Schneider said. "That's just the bottom line. And doesn't really matter how you do it. If you win 1-0, if you win 10-9. You gotta start winning."

You can't really disagree with Schneider's take here. The Blue Jays simply need to win games if they hope to be a playoff team again. However, right now, it is clear that Schneider's patience with how the team is playing is only decreasing even more.

“You guys probably want me to get pi***d off or the fans want me to get pi***d off, and if they were going after this in a way they shouldn’t, then I’d be pi***d off. But you can’t be," he told MLB.com reporter Keegan Matheson.

"I'm frustrated with them. I'm not mad at them, I am frustrated with them. We all are. And the message again, like we talked about before the game, it's a fine line between saying, 'Hey, every game is important,' and there's a sense of urgency, and then playing tight. I want the guys to go home, get a good night's rest, come tomorrow, and compete their ass off. That's all you can do."

Schneider will need to find the answer to help get the Blue Jays to get their season back on track. If they continue to pile up losses like they have been, this campaign will undoubtedly end up being a major disappointment.

Why hope is not completely lost for Schneider & the Blue Jays just yet

While there is no question that things have been rough for the Blue Jays for much of this season, hope is not completely lost. One long winning streak could be enough for them to jump ahead of the teams currently in front of them in the playoff race. If their stars can get hot and their roster can get healthier, the possibility of Toronto going on a late-season run should not be ruled out.

However, the Blue Jays are going to need show serious signs of improvement for this to have any chance of coming to fruition. It will be interesting to see if Schneider can get this team back on track from here.
