Toronto Blue Jays scores and analysis for minor league games played on Sunday, August 28th

Buffalo Bisons (65-71)   –   2
Lehigh Valley IronPigs (80-55)   –   5

A four-run third inning was all the IronPigs needed in this one. Dalton Pompey had the Bisons’ only extra-base hit while Jesus Montero singled twice, going 2-for-3. Matt Dominguez was 1-for-3 with an RBI and a walk, the only base-on-balls Buffalo managed.

Mike Bolsinger took the loss but had his moments. The deadline addition allowed three earned runs on seven hits over five innings, though he did strike out eight along the way. After two scoreless frames from Dustin Antolin (2.10 ERA), Matt Dermody (1.0 IP, 2 H, ER) and Chris Smith (1.0 IP, 2 K) rounded out the back end.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats (64-70)   –   6
Reading Fightin’ Phils (84-49)   –   7

A two-run triple from Ian Parmley brought the Fisher Cats back within one run in the top of the ninth before falling just short. Emilio Guerrero enjoyed a 2-for-4 day including a three-run home run, his fourth of the season. Rowdy Tellez got in on the action, too, hitting his 19th long ball of the season.

Jeremy Gabryszwski allowed four runs on eight hits — including two home runs — over seven innings of work. John Stilson was hit with the relief loss, allowing three runs on two hits and three walks in his lone inning. The outing moved Stilson’s double-A ERA to 4.05.

Dunedin Blue Jays (74-57)
Lakeland Flying Tigers (56-72)
— Cancelled —

Lansing Lugnuts (65-68)   –   6
Lake County Captains (69-64)   –   8

Ryan Metzler got on board with his first home run of the season, a solo shot in the fourth. Joshua Palacios continued his nice debut at the level with a 2-for-5 day while Carl Wise also went 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI. Designated hitter Connor Panas was 2-for-3.

Justin Maese had a rare poor outing, allowing eight earned runs on nine hits over six innings. The young right-hander struck out eight. Left-hander Kirby Snead handled the final two frames and kept it scoreless.

Vancouver Canadians (27-41)   –   8
Everett AquaSox (40-28)   –   6

A quartet of middle-inning home runs powered the Canadians from Bryan Lizardo, Jacob Anderson, DJ McKnight, and Juan Tejada. Coincidentally, all four home runs were two-run shots. The power was needed, too, as Christian Williams (2-for-3, BB) was the only Vancouver starter to record multiple hits.

Patrick Murphy worked six innings, allowing four earned runs on six hits. Grayson Huffman (2.0 IP, ER, 2 K) and Nick Hartman (S, 1.0 IP, ER) closed the game out.

Johnson City Cardinals (37-27)   –   5
Bluefield Blue Jays (36-27)   –   9

Bluefield was out-hit 10-to-9, but four errors cost Johnson City. Reggie Pruitt led the way with three RBI and two runs scored on a two-hit night. Lance Jones went 2-for-4 while both Javier Monzon (1-4) and Bradley Jones (1-5) drove in a pair.

On the mound, Jose Espada worked five innings and allowed three runs on five hits. He struck out one but did not issue a walk. Kelyn Jose (2.2 IP, 3 BB, 2 K) and Andrew Deramo (1.1 IP, ER, 3 H, 2 BB) handled the relief effort.
