For the first time ever, the Toronto Blue Jays played the New York Yankees in the MLB Postseason yesterday. Despite being division rivals and having classic moments for decades, postseason baseball between these two clubs was long overdue.
Yesterday, the Blue Jays won Game 1 of the 2025 ALDS to take an early 1-0 series lead. The Blue Jay bats dominated led by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Alejandro Kirk. The Blue Jays won four straight games to finish off the season and cement themselves as AL East champions and one thing they changed up late in the season was what was on their heads.
White and blue hat has been part of the past three Toronto wins
In 2017, the Blue Jays debuted a new hat with a white front with blue around it with the current Blue Jays logo. Recently, the hat has been part of some important wins. The Blue Jays wore the white and blue hat for three of the four final regular season games of 2025 including on the day they clinched the 2025 AL East Division.
Yesterday, the Blue Jays wore the hat again for Game 1 of the 2025 ALDS and the Blue Jays ended up dominating the Yankees 10-1 to win the game.
This hat may become as symbolic to the Blue Jays as the "rally Monkey" was to the Angels in 2002 or the way "Sweet Caroline" has become a Fenway Park staple. The win over the Yankees was the Blue Jays first playoff win since 2016 as the Blue Jays have come up short three times in the Wild Card series since 2020. The Blue Jays were swept by the Tampa Bay Rays. In 2022, the Blue Jays were swept by the Seattle Mariners. In 2023, the Blue Jays were swept by the Minnesota Twins.

In all three of those postseason appearances, the Blue Jays didn't wear the white and blue hat one time according to MLB Uniform lineup. However, they won Game 1 yesterday while wearing that hat, only making it feel more and more like it is the thing that will fuel them this postseason.
We'll see if the hat can bring the Blue Jays more like with Game 2 of the series today (Sunday) at 4:08 p.m. before the series shifts to New York for Games 3 and 4 (if necessary).
