It's been talked about all summer - what will the Toronto Blue Jays do with Bo Bichette? The shortstop is on an expiring contract and right now he could be one of the hottest free agents on the market this winter. He leads the league in hits, he is second in batting average and he's been driving in runs like...well...like it's his job!
Right now, the Blue Jays would be crazy not to give Bichette an above market deal to bring him back for the long haul, but the closer they get to the end of the season without a contract extension, the closer Blue Jays fans have to get with the reality that Bo could have 29 other suitors lining up for his services. If things go very wrong, and Bichette does leave, the Blue Jays already have an in-house option to take over the reigns at shortstop, and that's Andrés Giménez. The incumbent second basemen for the Blue Jays is already on a $100 million contract and has the defensive skills to man that position.

Giménez certainly doesn't have the bat, this year, to matchup with the production of Bichette, but again, if Bichette chooses to leave, Giménez is already in the system and can slide over. Now, this will create a hole at second base, something that could also be filled with incumbents such as Ernie Clement, Davis Schneider or even a few prospects could be in the mix, but there's a name that's recently become available that could pique the Blue Jays interest.
Sung-Mun Song of the the Korean Baseball League could be available this winter according to MLB Trade Rumors. The 29-year-old infielder has made it public that he will ask his current team in the KBO to post him at the end of the season. Since the beginning of the 2024 season, Song is hitting .330/.402/.528 with a 146 wRC+. He hit 19 home runs last season and has put up 24 this year. He's also got speed on the base paths with over 40 steals, and counting, since the beginning of last year.

Song has played professionally at every position on the infield except for shortstop, but scouting reports say he is best suited for third or second, despite playing some significant time at first as well.
This current Blue Jays front office has always expressed interest in signing players from Asia and they may have added their first real star earlier this month. The Blue Jays inked high school pitching prospect Seo-jun Moon. Bringing in Song might not be a game changer as he would be turning 30-years-old and in his first year in MLB, but if his production over the last two seasons keeps up, he could be a very valuable signing.
While priority number one should be to bring back Bichette, if the Blue Jays fail on that front, they may want to look at starting a new chapter by adding Song to the mix.
