The Toronto Blue Jays faced off against the Cleveland Guardians in a big series this weekend at Rogers Centre. Toronto only managed to go 14-16 during April, so a winning weekend would go a lone way toward the Blue Jays putting that in the rearview mirror.
The Blue Jays started the season strong with a 5-3 win on Friday night before the wheels fell off over the weekend and the Blue Jays lost back-to-back games.
When teams win a series, it can be normal for their social media team to poke fun at the opponent. However, the Guardians may have went a little far with theirs after the series given the current circumstances between the United States and Canada.
Guardians’ weak attempt to trash talk Blue Jays backfires after tweet is deleted
The current situation between Canada and the United States is a bit contentious right now due to current trade war between the two countries. While the Guardians' social media post didn't outright reference that, it was a bit in bad taste.

A short simple caption of: "America > Canada, objectively." Given what's going on between the two countries, the Guardians' social media team may have went too far. The tweet from the Guardians' official X account was deleted.
The Guardians' social team has a history of poking fun at their opponents, but this seemed to have done a bit too far.
Usually Cleveland's on the other end of the joke when it comes to making fun of cities.
Perhaps the best example of that came in 2010 when Joakim Noah took a shot at Cleveland during the NBA playoffs in perhaps one of the most memorable soundbites of all time.
"I never heard anybody say 'I'm going to Cleveland on vacation,'" Noah said. "What's so good about Cleveland"?
Cleveland also caught a high-profile stray in 2003 when Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson insulted the city at a WWE show in 2003.
The Rock was backstage and looked around the room and said "no wonder Jim Thome left," in reference to Thome leaving the then-Indians for the Phillies in 2003.
The Rock would then proceed to play a song on the guitar and call Cleveland a "dump" and make fun of it for having Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. At the end, the Rock said that Cleveland doesn't rock and the town "totally sucks."
The Blue Jays and Guardians do have some history as well. Cleveland faced off against Toronto in the ALCS in 2016, where the Indians clinched the AL Pennant in Rogers Centre with a Game 5 win. Cleveland rubbed some salt in the wound a year later when they signed Edwin Encarnación away from Toronto in free agency.
This tweet is just another example of the min-rivalry between the two teams, even if they completed a trade in the offseason for Andrés Giménez.
The Blue Jays won't have much time to lick their wounds, as they'll now head on a West Coast swing starting with a game against the Angels on Tuesday.
