Trey Yesavage will get the nod to start for the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday against the Tampa Bay Rays marking the former first round draft picks' MLB debut. With the 20th overall pick in the 2024 MLB Draft, the Blue Jays selected the Pottstown, Pennsylvania native who had three years solid years at East Carolina from 2022-2024.

In his first professional season in 2025, Yesavage flew through the minor leagues beginning in Single A Dunedin, moving all the way up to Triple A before officially being called up this weekend. The 22-year-old will now get ready to play in MLB just over one year after being drafted by the Blue Jays.

On Sunday morning Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters that Yasavage will get the nod Monday night against the Tampa Bay Rays, as they begin a four-game series against the Rays at Steinbrenner Field.

Yesavage has put up some solid numbers in the minor leagues over the course of 2025 combined. In 25 games pitched (22 starts), Yesavage has recorded a 3.12 ERA in 98 innings pitched and 160 strikeouts. He produced a 14.7 SO/9 rate and 0.969 WHIP, and 0.7 HR/9 rate, allowing just eight home runs across all of his appearances. It's one of the quickest rises from draft day to the majors of any players in Blue Jays history, and certainly under the current front office regime.

It's not known yet how this will affect the rest of the rotation or how many starts Yesavage will get. Sportsnet reporter Arden Zwelling says he could continue to start after Monday or pitch in a bulk-type relief role according to Manager John Schneider.

The Rays are no longer realistically chasing a postseason spot, but they will be looking to play spoilers against their division rivals. They Blue Jays are just 1-5 against the Rays this year, including being swept by Tampa in Florida earlier this season. Toronto will hope that Yesavage can turn their fortunes around against a team he will likely face many times over his career as a member of the Blue Jays.

First pitch for tomorrow night's game to see Yesavage make his MLB debut is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. ET.
