George Springer's struggles in camp this season have raised concerns throughout the Blue Jays' fan base, especially considering he's coming off two down years with Toronto. But based off some new comments from Springer, it seems the 35-year-old doesn't seem the least bit worried.

George Springer responds to spring training struggles for Blue Jays

Earlier this week, Springer spoke with MLB.com's Keegan Matheson, where he said that he "feels great" heading into an incredibly important season.

“For me, it’s about the process," Springer told Matheson. "It’s not about the results. I want to make sure that I’m swinging at the right pitches and getting my swing off. Yeah, obviously everyone would like to see the ball hit the grass, but for me specifically, I’m working on the mechanical side of it.”

After spending most of his time in Toronto in the leadoff spot, Springer seems set to move down to a lower spot in the batting order this year.

Bo Bichette has been leading off most games this spring, and is the likely candidate to take over the leadoff spot. Bichette has had an elite spring and is looking to have a breakout season following his injury-prone 2024.

Bichette's hitting four home runs with a .366 batting average this spring, while Springer's hitting .107 with just one extra-base hit.

While Springer's optimism is admirable, he'll need to produce in the regular season before anyone believes him. Springer has about a week left in camp, which makes the perfect time for him to find his offensive spark.

It would be unfair to expect Springer to hit like Vladimir Guerrero Jr. at this point in his career. But that's not what anyone's asking for him; instead, the best way he can help the Blue Jays is by stringing together good at-bats.

When Springer's at his best, he's making plays in the field and on the basepaths. His energy is contagious, and it's one of his strongest qualities. While everyone knows that spring training stats don't mean much, every player would rather have a good spring as opposed to a bad one.

Only time will tell if Springer is capable of making the necessary adjustments needed to have a return to form. But if Springer continues to struggle at the plate, there's a good chance his job could be on the line.

Alan Roden has been a strong contributor to the Blue Jays' success in the Grapefruit League and is fighting for a spot for Opening Day alongside Myles Straw. While neither player is on the 40-man roster, time is running out for Springer to get the ball rolling.
