Ernie Clement played in his first career All-Star game on Tuesday night in Philadelphia and made a lasting impression with a true highlight play on defence—and the victim of his glove work made his wizardry that much sweeter.
Clement robbed Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Andy Pages of a surefire base to end the fifth inning by ranging up the middle and completing a jumping throw to first base.

It would have been a certified web gem against any batter, but Clement making this play on a ball hit by Pages is too fitting after what happened last fall.
What did Pages do to Clement in the World Series?
Clement is already a beloved Blue Jay, yet in a different world he stands on the pantheon of franchise heroes alongside Joe Carter as two guys who delivered a walk-off hit to win the World Series. The only reason he isn’t is because of Andy Pages.
Pages robbed Clement of what would have been a game-winning hit in Game 7 of the World Series last fall, coming out of nowhere to catch a ball that didn’t appear as if it would be caught otherwise. The Dodgers won the game two innings later in the eleventh inning.
This memory was still fresh in Clement’s mind during the All-Star game when he had a chance to get Pages back for denying him and his team history.
Clement said he immediately thought of Pages' catch on his ball in the ninth inning of Game 7 as he made the out: "Yeah, I was kind of pointing at him, just so he knows that I know that I kind of got him back. But I would have loved for it to be the other way around."

The stakes were hardly comparable between the two plays, but Clement nonetheless had to take some satisfaction in getting Pages back on primetime. It was a fun reminder of how close things ultimately were last fall and how that series could have gone either way.
Things have trended upward for both Clement and Pages since that fateful evening in November. Pages, like Clement, was named an All-Star for the first time after struggling mightily at the plate throughout the Dodgers’ playoff run. He has solidified himself as a core piece of their future.
Clement, of course, has follow-up his record-breaking playoff run with arguably his finest season as a big leaguer thus far. He’s proven that all the hits he racked up in the World Series weren’t a fluke. He is a great player in his own right.
Unfortunately, an October rematch between Clement and Pages appears unlikely given how poorly the Blue Jays have fared in 2026. This All-Star Game moment could very well be the last time these two cross paths this season—but only time will tell for sure.
All that can be said definiteively is that Clement made the most of his moment, giving Pages the Dodgers something to think about moving forward.
