It may make total sense to reward key players that have performed beyond expectations with valuable contract extensions in order to maintain sustainable success for the team going forward. But at the same time, the same logic should be applied to the management level if they play a huge role in helping to make the team a winner.

For Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider, he has done exactly that for the Blue Jays during the past few seasons. Most significantly, he helped lead Toronto in their magical run to the World Series in 2025, something that they hadn’t accomplished in over three decades. As a result, Schneider truly deserves a contract extension to keep the successful winning formula intact for the Blue Jays.

In fact, that extension for Toronto’s key leader could actually be coming very soon. According to Hazel Mae and Shi Davidi of Sportsnet, the Blue Jays manager said that “negotiations are still ongoing” for his potential new contract, as his current one expires at the end of the 2026 season.

Schneider’s negotiations couldn’t have come at a better time as the Milwaukee Brewers recently extended the contract of their manager Pat Murphy after helping the team to first overall in the entire league in 2025. But more significantly, as Davidi has pointed out, Murphy’s latest contract has helped changed the manager market

The Brewers’ manager added two years onto his current contract along with $8.95 million in new money, making him one of the highest-paid managers in all of MLB. In fact, it put him ahead of the likes of Dave Roberts of the World Series winning Los Angeles Dodgers squad and Craig Counsell of the Chicago Cubs.

As for Schneider, he has helped Toronto to a strong 303-257 record since taking over as the Blue Jays manager in 2022. In doing so, they have made the postseason in three of the four years under his tutelage, along with capturing their first division title in over a decade last season.

With Schneider having done his job in converting the Blue Jays into World Series finalists, he should have now comfortably put himself in the conversation of being among the top paid managers in the league as a result. Schneider’s great work and effort should be deservingly rewarded as the Blue Jays will look to him to help lead the team going forward and to finish off some unfinished business.
