Since first playing in MLB with the Houston Astros in 2014, George Springer put together a solid career. Springer has made the All-Star Game four times, won two Silver Sluggers and took home the 2017 World Series MVP. Since 2021, he has become a fan favourite as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays.

Blue Jays fans have been drawn to not just his play on the field, with 2025 arguably the best season of his career, but also to his infectious energy and the "vibes" he brings to the whole clubhouse culture. Now at 36 years old, Springer's popularity in not only Toronto, but his home state of Connecticut will have a connection to the Hockey Hall of Fame, which ironically is in Toronto as well.

Springer has Whaler-themed batting gloves that will be headed to the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Springer was born on Sept. 19, 1989, in New Britain, Connecticut. New Britain is roughly over 20 minutes south of Connecticut's capital, Hartford. When Springer was young, Connecticut had a professional hockey team known as the Hartford Whalers, playing in the NHL.

In 1997, the Whalers relocated from Hartford to North Carolina and were renamed to the Carolina Hurricanes.. Nearly three decades after moving from Hartford, Springer still represents his home state and team with a solid fashion statement, sporting blue and green Whaler-themed batting gloves.

After the 2025 MLB season concludes, Springer will donate those batting gloves to the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. It was a request that the Hockey Hall of Fame made to the Blue Jays star.

As a current Blue Jays player, this can be seen as a huge honor for Springer that he is representing his home state of Connecticut in the MLB even though the Whalers no longer exist. Now, the recognition of Springer will be honored in the city he currently plays baseball in.
