Blue Jays' top prospect begging for a promotion after latest stretch

As the Toronto Blue Jays mull over the offers they may or may not make ahead of the Aug. 3 trade deadline, one thing is clear; their top prospect is begging for a promotion to the next level.

After his recent stretch it really feels like it is only a matter of time before JoJo Parker gets his promotion up to High-A Vancouver. Parker has hit .268/.380/.537 with a .917 OPS, a 129 wRC+, two home runs, and 11 RBIs in ten games since playing in the MLB futures game. Six of his 11 hits have been for extra bases and the 19-year-old shortstop just continues to improve as the season goes on.

Drafted in the first-round, (No. 8 overall) in 2025, the Blue Jays signed the Mississippi native to a team record $6.1-million signing bonus. That money seems like it is going to pay off as he keeps solidifying himself as a future major leaguer. Sure, it's early, but all signs are pointing toward Parker reaching the majors at some point in his career.

He's already drawing comparisons to All-Stars and Silver Slugger winners, and while those feel like lofty expectations to put on the shoulders of a teenager, Parker has met all challenges head on and seems to be getting better day-by-day.

Blue Jays may be able to deal from middle infield depth thanks to Parker's emergence

It's likely the Blue Jays are waiting for the deadline to be over with before they make a move with Parker. Toronto looks to be sellers, but could also approach the deadline from a hybrid standpoint where they trade major league talent for other major league talent to address some areas of need going into 2027.

To do that they would need to deal from some perceived areas of strength and right now, the Blue Jays have some strength with their collection of middle infielders. At the top of the food chain is Andrés Giménez and Ernie Clement, with Luis Urias on the bench in Toronto and Lenyn Sosa currently on a rehab assignment.

In Triple-A, the Blue Jays have Charles McAdoo, Carlos Mendoza, Josh Kasevich, Jay Harry and Jose Rivera. In Double-A, No. 2 prospect Arjun Nimmala has hit .261 with four home runs and a 140 wRC+ in 12 games since coming off the Injured List and rejoining the Fisher Cats at the beginning of July. Cutter Coffey, Nick Goodwin and Cade Doughty can also play in those middle infield spots as well, and are also currently in Double-A.

Some of these players could get moved at the deadline, which would have a spill over effect internally with guys getting moved up or down, depending on the kinds of deals Toronto makes. And unless the Blue Jays do something very drastic, it doesn't seem like Parker will be a part of any trade package heading out of the system. So while Parker continues to swing a hot bat, it's very likely he is right on the cusp of his first promotion.
