Hold on to your hats, Toronto Blue Jays fans. This one's coming down to the wire.

As the baseball world anticipates the decision of star free agent Kyle Tucker, one MLB insider provided further clarity as to when we'll know who lands what may be the biggest free agent of the offseason.

Jon Heyman thinks Kyle Tucker will make his decision by the weekend the latest

MLB insider Jon Heyman reported on MLB Network that he believes Tucker will make his decision before the weekend. Originally, numerous reports stated that Tucker would choose his team as early as Thursday. Heyman stated that the finalists are the Toronto Blue Jays, NY Mets, and LA Dodgers and would be surprised if it's anyone other than those three teams.

"A lot of people thought it was going to be [Thursday], and it could still be," said Heyman. "It probably won't go into the weekend." The longtime reporter also noted that he believes Toronto could be Tucker's preferred destination.

"Some of [Tucker's] friends from the Cubs and Astros suggest they would think he would prefer to go to a place that's a little bit less intense, a little bit smaller. He might prefer Toronto. That's a guess, and 'prefer' doesn't mean he's taking it."

Earlier in the week, reports from numerous insiders stated that the Mets were ready to offer a three to four-year deal with a $50 million AAV. However, MLB Insider Jeff Passan stated the Blue Jays may potentially be the only team that's "shown the willingness to go as deep as 10 years," via Rogers' Sportsnet.

Heyman also believes that Tucker would appreciate Toronto's facilities in Dunedin, Florida, which are close to his hometown, Tampa, giving Toronto a slight advantage. Tucker visited the Blue Jays' Spring Training complex in Dunedin back in December.

This isn't the first time the Blue Jays have been fighting for the offseason's highly touted player in the final stages of the decision. In 2025, Toronto was reportedly in on Juan Soto before he ultimately picked the Mets on that whopping 15-year, $765 million contract. As for 2024? Who can forget the biggest plane ride in sports history to Toronto that apparently contained Shohei Ohtani? That, of course, ended in a nightmare for Blue Jays fans when Ohtani picked the Dodgers.

The Blue Jays made the biggest splash this offseason, landing the likes of Cody Ponce, Dylan Cease, Tyler Rogers, and, more recently, Kazuma Okamoto. Their spending on the newest members of the reigning American League champions exceeds $300 million. If Tucker decides on Toronto, expect that number to soar.
