The Toronto Blue Jays have had an interesting offseason, to say the least. They have been trying to improve their roster as they look to contend for a championship in the 2025 season, and have made some moves in hopes of being able to do that. After missing out on Juan Soto, Corbin Burnes, and Roki Sasaki, they pivoted to other targets in hopes of bolstering their lineup.

They brought in Anthony Santander on a long-term, five-year deal with the hope that they could make even more moves to increase their chances of winning a World Series; Santander's contract was reported Monday and swiftly finalized.

According to the recent rumors surrounding the Blue Jays, they aren't done yet, and are inching closer to landing. Pete Alonso. It seems as though talks could be advancing, according to a new source.

Blue Jays talks with Pete Alonso "advancing" as Mets reportedly fall behind

According to SNY's Andy Martino, talks between the Blue Jays and Alonso are "advancing" on Thursday, according to a source with some knowledge on the matter. He emphasized that a contract is not done, not close to done, and this report doesn't guarantee that anything is going to get done anytime soon. However, it adds fuel to the fire that the two sides are working to get something completed. Martino's proximity to the Mets also seems pertinent; it is still not known whether the Mets will be given a chance to match a Blue Jays contract, or raise their "last-ditch" offer of $68-70 million.

Alonso, who is 30 years old, had a .240 batting average last season. He hit 34 home runs and had 88 runs batted in with 146 hits. Throughout his career, he has 226 home runs wth 586 runs batted in and a .249 batting average through 3,139 at bats, all with the Mets. Bringing him in could move superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr. over to third base and could further enhance the chances of the team being able to re-sign Guerrero Jr. long-term if he sees the Blue Jays are trying to contend consistently.

Contract talks don't seem to be close to completed yet, but it seems encouraging that the two sides continue to work toward a new deal. Adding Alonso likely makes the Blue Jays a contender for the 2025 season and beyond, and they still have time to make other moves if they see fit.
