With the trade deadline approaching, the Toronto Blue Jays are sitting in the buyers chair and they need to figure out how they are going to land big players. One thing they must do is showcase their players to enhance their value on the trade market and it appears they are doing just that with recently promoted outfielder Joey Loperfido.

Anthony Santander, Daulton Varsho, and Andres Gimenez are all down on the injured list, so getting Loperfido on the roster was a next man up scenario. Nonetheless, there really won't be a spot in the outfield for him when all three of these guys get healthy, shifting the entire team around.

They could have done without recalling him too as Myles Straw and Davis Schneider were already on the big league roster, making this promotion more significant. It seems as if they want Loperfido to get as much playing time as he can during this absense of players, in an effort to showcase him to potential sellers.

Joey Loperfido's promotion could be a hint of a potential Blue Jays' trade.

Loperfido was a former top prospect in the Astros organization and came back in the Yusei Kikuchi trade. He doesn't really have a clear cut path to the big leagues and his value could help land a solid big leaguer in a trade.

Now that he has gotten off to a solid start since his promotion, Loperfido is building up his trade value in a positive way. In 11 at bats, he already has five hits, a home run, and five RBI. The big thing for him this season was cutting down his swings and misses in Triple-A and he did that, dropping his whiff rate to 25.9%.

In Triple-A, his wRC+ reached 110 with just a 21.9% strikeout rate and a .776 OPS. His bat is above average for sure at that level and now that he is proving himself in the big leagues, his trade value is up. It would not hurt Toronto use him in a package for a big time pitcher at the deadline.

Without promoting him, Loperfido would not have added as much value to his name. He has been solid in Triple-A, but not great. His added production at the big league level is truly increasing his trade value and it was a great idea to get him up here while we await the big bats to return.
