The Toronto Blue Jays are continuing to have their struggles as the season carries on. They are currently third in the American League East with a 26-29 record (going into May 27). After going on a four-game winning streak, they lost two in a row, before picking up a win over the Miami Marlins on Tuesday. With this, the Blue Jays are still looking to go on that real run and completely turn things around.

While things have not been going the best for the Blue Jays so far this season, there is certainly a lot to be optimistic about when it comes to their prospect pool. In fact, two prospects from the Blue Jays' system recently were rewarded due to their excellent play as of late.

The Vancouver Canadians shared that Alexis Hernandez and Nolan Perry have been named the NWL Player and Pitcher of the Week. When looking at how well both Hernandez and Perry played during this past week, it is entirely understandable that they have earned this great shout-out.

Big weeks by Hernandez and Perry should put them on the radar for a move up the organizational ladder

Starting with Hernandez, he had a strong week. From May 19 to May 24, the 23-year-old infielder went 12-for-28 at the plate. He also had three home runs, five doubles, and 10 RBI. This should only create more excitement about his future with the big-league club.

As for Perry, he thrived in his lone start of the week for Vancouver. In five scoreless innings pitched against High-A Spokane, he allowed just one hit and struck out an impressive 10 batters. This was also the second start in a row that Perry had 10 strikeouts.

When looking at how Hernandez and Perry have played this season, it is hard not to feel optimistic about their futures with Toronto. Hernandez has shown promise this campaign with High-A Vancouver, as he has six home runs, 24 RBI, and a .292 batting average. These are solid numbers, and he is clearly trending in the right direction after the week he just had.

As for Perry, he has been spectacular since getting the call-up to High-A Vancouver. In three starts with Vancouver this season, he has a 2-0 record, a 0.60 ERA, and 28 strikeouts. This is after he had a 1.71 ERA and 32 strikeouts in five appearances for Single-A Dunedin this season before his call-up.

It will now be interesting to see how Hernandez and Perry build on their hot streaks from here.
