Blue Jays’ newest top prospect has toolset that should have fans very excited

The Blue Jays missed out on Roki Sasaki after making it into his top two desired destinations. They did all they could to influence his decision to sign with Toronto, but they were unsuccessful, and were left with slightly over $8 million to spend in international bonus pool space after the hammer dropped. Fortunately, they were still able to land a top prospect in the 2025 cycle, and fans should get very excited about this young player from the Dominican Republic.

For a bonus deal of $2.3 million, Toronto was able to land Christopher Polanco, the 22nd overall prospect in this cycle, according to MLB Pipeline. He has a lot of great tools that could assist him in becoming a top prospect in baseball.

Blue Jays fans should be grateful that they were able to land Chirstopher Polanco after missing out on Roki Sasaki.

Baseball America's scouting report on Polanco said a lot of impressive things about him. They noted:

"Polanco is one of the more advanced left-handed hitters in the 2025 international class. He regularly strings together quality at-bats and performs well in games with a short, sweet swing that’s mechanically sound and a knack for barreling good velocity."

Above all else, BA highlighted Polanco's offensive ability as an up-the-middle talent, flagging that his doubles could become homers as he fills out.

That is some high praise for the 17-year-old prospect. MLB Pipeline's scouting grades on him show that he will likely be ranked top five in the Blue Jays organization. Those grades are: Hit: 60 | Power: 50 | Run: 45 | Arm: 45 | Field: 45 | Overall: 50.

Putting those grades into perspective, the Blue Jays' second-ranked prospect Orelvis Martinez has the following: Hit: 45 | Power: 60 | Run: 40 | Arm: 55 | Field: 45 | Overall: 50. Comparing the two profiles, there is a chance that Polanco could make his way up to Toronto's second-best slot almost immediately.

Overall, fans should be getting excited about Polanco. They were fortunate to still land a top prospect in this international cycle after missing on Sasaki.
