The Toronto Blue Jays will certainly be a team to watch this season when it comes to the trade market. As one of baseball's strongest clubs, there is a good chance that they will be buyers once we get closer to the trade deadline. This is especially so when noting that they are in the very competitive American League East.
The Blue Jays are a very good team, but they also have areas on their roster that they should look to address. One specific need they have is another high-impact starting pitcher, as every contender needs to sport a strong rotation. They would also be wise to upgrade their outfield.
Due to this, the Blue Jays are now being viewed as a potential landing spot for two big-time Minnesota Twins trade candidates.
Blue Jays Named Potential Landing Spot for 2 Twins Stars
With the Twins heading toward a rebuild, starting pitcher Joe Ryan and outfielder Byron Buxton have been creating chatter as trade candidates. They both were featured on Zachary D. Rymer's top 10 MLB trade chips rankings for Bleacher Report. In his piece, Rymer listed the Blue Jays as a potential landing spot for both Ryan and Buxton.
When looking at the Blue Jays' roster, there is no question that a pitcher like Ryan would be a major pickup for them. The 6-foot-2 righty is coming off an excellent 2025 season with the Twins, where he had a 13-10 record, a 3.42 ERA, and 194 strikeouts. He was also named to the All-Star Game for the first time in his major league career.
If the Blue Jays struck a deal to land Ryan, he would give them another star pitcher to work with in the front half of their rotation. Furthermore, he would be more than a rental for Toronto, as he is not eligible to become an unrestricted free agent until after the 2027 season.
As for Buxton, he would certainly give the Blue Jays' outfield a nice boost if acquired. The 32-year-old is coming off the best season of his major league career, as he set career highs with 35 home runs and 83 RBI. This helped him make his second-career All-Star and win his first Silver Slugger Award.
Yet, trading for Buxton would come with some risk for the Blue Jays. The 12-year veteran has had trouble with injuries for much of his career. However, at the same time, he is a star when healthy and could be a great addition to Toronto if acquired.
It's early in the year, but the Blue Jays front office is always looking ahead at how they can make the team better and at the rate the Blue Jays are going in the early part of this season, there could be a spot in the lineup for these two players should the injuries continue.
