The Toronto Blue Jays may have lost Bo Bichette this offseason but their middle of the order looks as dangerous as ever.
The Blue Jays had the best team batting average in baseball last year, which led to a number of fun small-ball moments, but it's their power that may be doing most of the talking this year. Not only will the team have Vladimir Guerrero Jr. back and more motivated than ever, but the likes of Addison Barger, Dalton Varsho and Kazuma Okamoto may be one of the deadliest stretches of a middle order in MLB.
Blue Jays middle of the order may provide tons of power in 2026
After hitting one of the most famous grand slam in Blue Jays history, (a pinch hit slam in Game 1 of the World Series) everyone is a fan of Barger, and they should be. Currently entering his third MLB season and second full campaign, the 26 year-old leaves it all on the field every time he plays. However, if you look at his Spring Training numbers so far, he's mashing the baseball, which could lead to a huge 2026 season.
so Addison Barger is destroying balls, being aggressive in the zone and laying off pitches out of the zone, not swinging and missing, hitting balls at ideal launch angles, and pulling the ball in the air

he has literally been the perfect hitter in the spring https://t.co/Gn7DnqjbWJ
While Spring Training stats don't always determine how the regular season goes, this should gives Blue Jays' fans a ton of hope that Barger will exceed his 2025 totals (21 HR, 72 RBI).
As for Varsho, despite only playing 71 games last year, he finished fourth on the team in home run's and that hot play has continued this spring. We all know how important Varsho's glove is, but if he can keep up this kind of power, we could be looking at the modern-day version of Andruw Jones - a guy who who could win a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger as a center fielder in the same year.
Varsho led the Blue Jays in HR (5) and RBI (14) during spring training and will be a pitcher's nightmare, especially if he goes into the No. 2 hole between George Springer and Vladdy. You're not going to pitch around Varsho to get to Guerrero Jr., so Varsho could see a ton of good pitches in that spot and be a force this year, like he was last year.
We've all seen what Barger and Varsho can do in the past, but the biggest surprise and threat for the Blue Jays this year has to be Okamoto. The 29 year-old is a three-time home run leader in Japan, hitting 30-plus home run's on six different occasions. Obviously it's a different league but at the end of the day, baseball is baseball regardless of what country you're playing it in, so Okamoto could be another deadly bat in the middle of the order.
If Ernie Clement, Andrés Giménez and Springer can get on base near the top and bottom of the Blue Jays order, we already know that Alejandro Kirk and Guerrero Jr. are going to mash baseballs. However, it may turn out that Barger, Varsho and Okamoto are just as powerful, and can do their part in helping this Blue Jays team score a ton of runs this year.
