One day after a blowout loss to the Royals, the Toronto Blue Jays get a chance once again to solidify themselves as a playoff team and quickly erase any memories of the 20-1 drubbing at the hands of Kansas City from Friday. It's not as simple as a 'win and you're in' but a win for Toronto would go a long way at this time of the year.

Miraculously, even with that awful loss on Friday, the Blue Jays didn't actually lose any ground on their playoff chances, in fact they actually got even closer to clinching the AL East, thanks to the Yankees loss in Baltimore. They also maintained their lead at the top of the American League with the Tigers loss to the Braves.

A win on Saturday would help alleviate a lot of frustrated feelings from the Blue Jays, but it's not the only thing they need to get in. A win combined with a loss by either the Tigers, the Red Sox (who are playing in Tampa Bay) or the Guardians (who are playing in Minnesota) would get the job done. A win would also snap a three game slide in which the Blue Jays have scored a combined two runs.

It's the first time this season they have been held to under three runs in a three game stretch since they were swept in Tampa Bay in May, scoring single runs in the first two contests before being shut out in the finale.

Meantime, Toronto could also get to the playoffs without a win. Detroit, and Boston would have to lose while Cleveland would have to lose both games of their double header. The Blue Jays are trying to get to 90 wins for the first time since 2022.
