There certainly isn’t any team in the league that is hotter right now than the Toronto Blue Jays. Coming off back-to-back sweeps of the New York Yankees and Los Angeles Angels, the Blue Jays have won eight in a row and 12 of their past 14 games. In doing so, Toronto now has sole possession of first place in the American League East and a good three games clear of the Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays.
The Blue Jays will now look to continue their winning ways and further build on their division lead against the team with the worst record in the American League. Starting on Monday, they will take on the Chicago White Sox for a three-game series at Rate Field.
Blue Jays look to continue winning streak versus AL-bottom feeding White Sox
However, the Jays shouldn’t take the White Sox too lightly since after all, the last team that actually took a series from Toronto was this very same Chicago team. Just two weeks ago, the White Sox won two of three against the Jays during a time when Toronto had already began their surge up the standings.
On top of that, the Blue Jays may appear to be like world beaters when playing at home. But they definitely are still a work in progress when on the road as exemplified by their 20-22 record away from the Rogers Centre. So they should take full advantage of this series and finally get themselves above .500 in that regards with the glorious opportunity being presented in front of them.
At the same time, the series could also be a preview for both teams as potential trade partners for the deadline. Without question the White Sox are in dire need of a rebuild, after finding themselves near the American League basement for the past three seasons. Toronto on the other hand, are looking for key pieces to complete their roster heading into the stretch run.
With respect to hitting help, the White Sox have their most obvious trade chip in star outfielder Luis Robert Jr. However, Robert had been struggling for much of this year and dating as far back as the previous season, making one wonder if he will regain his All-Star form from 2023 in which he recorded 38 home runs and 80 RBIs. As for pitching, starters Shane Smith and Sean Burke would be intriguing options. But if Chicago is indeed looking to build for the future, they likely won’t want to part ways with their promising young players.
That leaves potentially intriguing reliever Steven Wilson, who has had a strong 2025 campaign to date. Wilson sports a tidy 1.59 ERA while giving up only two home runs with 26 strikeouts in 28 1/3 innings pitched over 30 appearances this year. In return, the Jays have many young prospects that could catch the eye of the White Sox brass to help with getting the franchise back on track.
Nevertheless, it should turn out to be an important series for the Jays in more ways than one when all is said and done. But with the way they have been playing lately, it feels they may never lose again no matter what the circumstances may be.
