The Toronto Blue Jays continue to add to their pitching depth as their last signing of 2025 came a few hours before the calendar flipped to 2026. It's another arm added to the organization but one that is probably the best, feel good story.

Blue Jays latest signing is a feel good story that could have a huge payoff

According to ESPN's Alden Gonzalez, the Blue Jays have added right handed pitcher Nic Enright on a two-year minor league deal with the goal being to have Enright pitch for the team in 2027. He is currently rehabbing from Tommy John surgery and will spend the entire year recovering.

It's not the first time the Blue Jays have signed a player who isn't available in the same season they signed them. Chad Green being an example of that in which he signed ahead of the 2023 season while also recovering from Tommy John surgery. He spent most of the 2023 campaign on the shelf and had options built into his contract in which he could exercise to play in '25 and even '26.

Green ended up making 12 appearances at the end of the year in '23, had a really good 53 game campaign in '24 in which he produced a 3.21 ERA with 49 strikeouts and a 1.031 WHIP in 53.1 innings pitched. But the following year he couldn't replicate that success and was let go at the 2025 trade deadline.

Enright, 28, not only comes with a track record that suggests he could be valuable at the big league level, but his comeback story will be one that is easy to cheer for. It's not the first time Enright has had to overcome the odds to get back to the big leagues. In 2022, he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, but managed to make it back to playing pro-ball in 2023 as a member of the Miami Marlins.

2025 was Enright's first year in the big leagues and in his rookie campaign, he had a very strong year with a 2.03 ERA with 30 strikeouts in 31 innings of work. If Enright can return to that form the Blue Jays will already have themselves a reliable relief option for 2027.
