Blue Jays Injury News: Arrighetti suffers injury during rehab, things don’t look good for Yesavage

The injury bug hasn’t let up for the Toronto Blue Jays throughout the 2026 MLB season and that trend has unfortunately continued post-trade deadline. There were some players that the Blue Jays gave updates on in the last few days.

Spencer Arrighetti

One of the Blue Jays’ trade deadline acquisitions, Spencer Arrighetti, was ready to factor into Toronto’s rotation in short order before suffering an injury during his rehab outing with the Blue Jays’ Triple-A affiliate Buffalo Bisons. On Thursday, Arrighetti had to leave the game in the third inning when he appeared to have aggravated a pre-existing right foot injury. He will be sent in for scans with hopes that it isn’t anything major.

Trey Yesavage

In the case for rookie standout Trey Yesavage, his 2026 campaign may now be cut short after an MRI scan revealed a meniscus injury in his left knee following his departure from Tuesday’s game against the Houston Astros.

In what the Blue Jays hoped would have cleared up in a few days, Yesavage will now instead see a specialist early next week to determine the next steps. According to Sportsnet, Blue Jays manager John Schneider indicated that “surgery is always a possibility when a player sees a specialist, (but) we’re hoping to avoid that.”

Luis Urias

As for one of the Jays’ hottest hitters in recent games, Luis Urias was placed on the injured list on Friday with a right quad strain. Urias suffered the ailment during the makeup game against the Chicago Cubs on Thursday.

The 29-year-old infielder had been batting .400 with a 1.017 OPS along with two doubles and four RBIs in his last five games prior to the injury. The newly-acquired Josh Smith will now step into his place during his absence while Brett Bateman made his MLB debut on Friday for the Blue Jays as Urias’ roster spot replacement.

Yimi Garcia

In terms of veteran reliever Yimi Garcia, his 2026 campaign is all but officially done as Schneider revealed that he had been diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome, as per Shi Davidi of Sportsnet. That was exactly what Philadelphia Phillies ace Zack Wheeler had last season that ended his 2025 season in August. However, Wheeler has since recovered from his surgery and has looked strong for the Phillies after coming back this year. Hopefully Garcia will have a similar result as he aims to get back to full health.

Blue Jays got one good bit of injury related news before the week was out

Finally, the Blue Jays received some good news regarding one of their breakout prospects this season. Nolan Perry returned to the mound after suffering a concussion from a liner to the head almost three weeks ago.

Perry was dominate for Double-A New Hampshire by holding the opposition hitless in three innings of work. It's a tremendous outcome considering the circumstances, as a come backer to the head can often result in a lot of missed time. That would have been the last thing Perry needed in a season where he is rolling.

Perry has pitched in 15 games (14 starts) across three minor league levels this year and has an accumulative 2.29 ERA and 2.77 FIP with a 13.58 K/9 rate. He has 89 strikeouts across 59 innings pitched, with a .184 batting average against and a 0.98 WHIP.

In a season full of bad luck with injury woes, Toronto would certainly welcome more of these positive news stories as they finish out the 2026 season.
