Spirits are flying high for the Toronto Blue Jays after defeating the New York Yankees in four games in the 2025 ALDS. It's the first time since 2016 the Blue Jays will play in the ALCS. The Blue Jays will be awaiting the winner of the Detroit Tigers-Seattle Mariners series. Game 5 of their ALDS series is tomorrow in Seattle.

Thinking about next year might not be the biggest topic of mind for the Blue Jays at the moment, however, the offseason can creep up quickly and there will be lots to do once the season ends, whenever that is for Toronto. That's why it is never really too early to look ahead.

Toronto's bullpen has target for this free agency

Recently, Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report wrote an article titled "Each MLB Team's Biggest Roster Hole to Fix in 2025-26 Offseason. Reuter named every team's biggest issue and a logical target for each team. For the Blue Jays, Reuter was quick to point out relief pitching being a hole to fix, but named Tyler Rogers as the logical target for the team to sign.

"Young arms such as Braydon Fisher, Mason Fluharty, Brendon Little and Yariel Rodriguez give them depth, but another experienced late-inning veteran should be atop their wish list," Reuter said about the Blue Jays.

One thing is for certain, Rogers was one of the better relievers in the MLB in 2025 at 34 years old. Combined with the San Francisco Giants and New York Mets, Rogers finished with a 1.98 ERA in 91 games pitched.

Rogers' 91 games was the most games he's pitched in a season in his career, and his ERA was the lowest in his career for a single season (1.02 ERA in 2017, but pitched in 16 games). Numbers like that should have a lot of teams interested in Rogers, including the Blue Jays who will once again be in the market for relief pitching.

With San Francisco before being traded at the trade deadline, Rogers thrived as the Giants' best reliever. Rogers recorded a 1.80 ERA in 53 games pitched. Rogers did have a 2.30 ERA with the Mets after being traded, but was overall solid throughout 2025.

With how Toronto's bullpen has been throughout 2025, it's clear the team can use better relief pitching. Overall in the 2025 regular season, the Blue Jays ranked 16th with a 3.98 ERA, and there were times throughout the season where there were lots of concerns about who they were bringing out of the bullpen.

The main target for the Blue Jays will still likely be resigning Bo Bichette, and who wouldn't want to see them upgrade their lineup with a potential chase at Pete Alonso. However, the relief pitching will always be a work in progress and getting upgrades early in the offseason takes out a lot of the guest work.
